This is the first step and the entire process of getting your blog setup & ready to take you about 20 minutes or less than that. Once your blog will be online you are ready for blogging!
Before you can start blogging there are two things you need to do:
1.) Pick a domain name
If you have already a domain registered? Jump to #2
The domain name for this blog is bloggingburp.com. No matter from which part of the world you are searching – if you type that domain name into an internet browser you will be sent to this site.
Good blog names are unique and descriptive, and this also helps your audience to immediately know what your blog is about.
Another option is to simply use your own name. Many of the top bloggers use their very own name as their domain name, for example, Neil Patel (neilpatel.com). This has the added benefit of preventing someone else from registering your name as well as allows you to secure your “virtual real estate”.
Once you come up with some blog name ideas you will now need to choose a domain extension. “.com” is the gold standard and most commonly used, but .net and .org work just as well. I personally recommend staying away from other extensions like .us or .biz, as they are not so familiar to most people.
Many time it happens you may find that the domain name you desire is already taken. This happens to all of us, but you don’t need to be disappointed. If you find that your desired name is already taken try adding simple words like “the”, “a”, or “my” to the beginning of the name, or you can try adding dashes between words.
Note: You cannot use any punctuation other than dashes in a domain name
2.) Choose A Web Host
A web host is a company who is responsible for stores all of the files for your blog and delivers them to the user when they type your domain name. Fact: You must have a web host in order to have a blog.
Choosing a hosting provider is a really challenging task. A bad host will doom your blog from the beginning & users will be frustrated with slow page loading times. Slow Page Speed affect SEO. So be wise while choosing a hosting provider.
There are 100s of different web hosts you can choose from, but my personal recommendation for your blog is BlueHost. Key features of BlueHost:
- They offer a free, simple installation of all the popular blogging tools, including WordPress.
- They have been recommended by WordPress since 2005.
