When I come through his FB profile, I was really impressed & being a digital marketer I’m totally convinced that his blog surely going to rock. Thank you Istiak for your support, frankly saying when I was sending the questionnaire I was slightly confused whether you will accept or not but thanks to you who believe in me & gave an opportunity to interview him.
About Istiak Rayhan – Istiak Rayhan is the brain behind the RoadToBlogging.Com. He’s a 26-year old internet marketer and full-time blogger from Chittagong, Bangladesh. In addition to Road To Blogging, there are few other blogs ie HostLater.com, WPLeaders.com & SetYourOffice.com on which Istiak Rayhan is currently working on. Well, let’s continue reading his awesome interview with Blogging Burp founder.
1. Can you tell our readers about yourself and your blog?
I am Istiak Rayhan. I am a blogger and an internet marketer from Bangladesh. I’ve been blogging since 2012. In 2016, I took it as a full-time profession. Apart from blogging, I am also involved with plugin development with my younger brother. Our latest plugin is Ultimate Blocks. I am also working with some local startups as an angel investor and mentor.
My main blog is RoadToBlogging.com, where I talk about Blogging, SEO, Social Media, WordPress, Web Hosting, and anything related to blogging. I also run a few other blogs like WPLeaders, HostLater, SetYourOffice, etc.
2. Describe how did you first get into blogging?
Back in 2010, I used to work on a micro freelancing site. Some of the jobs required me to write blog posts. At that time, I wasn’t aware of blogging. I created a site at Weebly.com to do those jobs.
Later in 2012, I created a technology blog to share my knowledge with others. The same year, I came to know about professional blogging from Harsh Agrawal’s blog.
3. What inspired you to start your blog? And who has impacted you most in blogging?
The inspiration came from sharing my knowledge with others. Before launching RoadToBlogging, I used to write about WordPress, SEO and Blogging on my technology blog. One day I realized that my tech blog turned into a blog about blogging. That’s the time when I decided to launch RoadToBlogging.
And Harsh Agrawal of ShoutMeLoud was one of the early inspirations. I came to know about professional blogging from his blog.
4. What was the most challenging moment in your blogging journey so far?
The most challenging moment was getting hit by the Google Panda update. It happened in 2014. The time when I was thinking about taking blogging as a full-time profession. Because of the Google penalty, I lost more than 50% traffic overnight.
It was challenging, and at the same time, it was a huge learning curve for me. If it wouldn’t happen, I won’t be able to learn SEO the way I’ve learned it. So every disadvantage has an advantage also.
5. How do you manage time to run your blog efficiently?
Time Management is something that I used to struggle a lot. I still do, but not that much.
I mainly work in batches. So Saturday is primarily for scheduling new blog posts. And other days are allocated for promoting the posts, making outlines of new posts, and other blogging tasks.
6. How much time do you spend blogging?
It’s a tough question to answer. To be honest, I don’t maintain a strict schedule. Most of the day, I work for 5 – 8 hours. And I take a weekly break only on Friday.
7. Can you tell me some of your strengths that really helped you in blogging?
The main strength was patience when I started. I kept my journey on even when I was not making any significant amount of money from blogging.
Another thing that helped me was sticking with one thing. There are hundreds of ways of making money online. I never jumped to another way just because someone was making good money out of it.
8. What type of networking do you think is better to enhance your traffic to the blog?
Connecting with fellow bloggers is the best way. It’s not a big problem even if they are on the same niche. If you can maintain a good relationship with other bloggers, it will definitely help in increasing your blog traffic.
9. What do you think is the best strategy that worked well for you to get more traffic to your blog?
Driving organic traffic from Google.
I studied a lot about SEO when I got hit by Google update. That helped me a lot in generating organic traffic.
10. How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up and running?
Now I am a full-time blogger. I have to do blogging anyway. It’s not that I don’t feel demotivated. But most of the time, it’s for a short time.
I am a huge fan of the quote “The Journey is the Reward”. And I love my blogging journey. It motivates me to keep going.
11. Would you encourage other people to start their blog?
Yes, I believe everyone has something to say. And the best way to share their thoughts, wisdom, and learnings is blogging.
A blog is something that you own. When you share something on other platforms, you don’t own it. Your account may get banned, or you may lose control of the platform. But having a self-hosted blog means you are in control of everything.
Last year, I wrote a post on why should someone start a blog.
12. Can you name some of your favorite bloggers and explain why they are your favorites?
I have so many favorite bloggers. Naming a few is hard. But here are the 3 bloggers that I’m following now.
- Harsh Agrawal: Harsh is my all time favorite. Finding his blog is one of the best things that happened to me.
- Adam Connell: Adam is a real blogging superstar. He never fails to amaze me with his contents.
- Anil Agarwal: Anil is a very helpful blogger. I’ve been following him from my early days of blogging.
13. Any cool tips for a newbie?
My all-time favorite tip for newbie bloggers is, be real. Don’t copy everything that professional bloggers are doing. They are on a different stage. And you are on the first stage. Try to do your own things and at the same take inspirations from professional bloggers.
So, that is all. Thanks, Istiak Rayhan for taking your time from the busy schedule for the interview. More interviews with emerging blogger are on way. Follow us on Twitter, Facebook & Join our FB Group – DM World for the awesome bloggers’ interview.
